Cinemax eyes 140 screens, Rs 200 cr revenue in 2010

Cinemax, one of the largest multiplex chains in India, today said it is aiming to touch at least 140 screens nationally and is targeting revenue of Rs 200 crore this year.

"We will be touching 100 screens within the next 15 days from the present 94 with launches at Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Baroda. After that, 40 more screens are likely to be added this year," Cinemax India Ltd Senior Vice President Devang Sampath said.

South India will be the focus area, where Cinemax is planning to open three multiplexes -- two in Bangalore and one in Hyderabad this year, he said.

 

Cinemax, which opened its second multiplex in the southern region in Kochi here already has a multiplex at Hyderabad. "We are also open to exploring other cities in Kerala," he said.

From Kochi, Cinemax is targeting a revenue of Rs 15 crore this year, he said. It will host a total of 634 seats with 4 screens. The multiplex was formally inaugurated by Malayalam actor Prithviraj, whose film 'Thantonni' was screened after the function.

Cinemax owns and controls about 38 screens in Mumbai and Thane and also is one of the largest owners of multiplex properties in India.
