Mumbai: Pharma major Cipla has posted a 17 per cent jump in its net profit to Rs 140 crore for the first quarter of financial year 2008-09 compared with Rs 119.76 crore in the corresponding quarter last financial year, due to higher sales. The company's total sales has also gone up by 34 per cent to Rs 1224.1 crore for the quarter ended June 2008 compared with Rs 911.8 crore the company posted in the first quarter of last financial year. The company has recommended payment of dividend of Rs 2 per equity share for the financial year 2008 amounting to Rs 156.46 crore.
Kirloskar Brothers slips into the red
Mumbai: Kirloskar Brothers, a maker of pumps and valves, has reported a loss of Rs 4.4 crore in the three months ended June 2008 compared with a net income of Rs 25.71 crore a year ago, as expense climbed by about a third. Sales rose 16 per cent.
Gujarat NRE Coke net up two-fold
Mumbai: Low-ash metallurgical coke manufacturer Gujarat NRE Coke has posted a net profit of Rs 94.4 crore for the quarter ended June 30, more than two-fold rise over the corresponding period last year. Total income for the latest quarter stood at Rs 382.12 crore as against Rs 152.38 crore in the same period last year.

Mumbai: Great Eastern Shipping has announced a net profit of Rs 387.59 crore for the first quarter ended June 2008, a 7.94 per cent decline over the corresponding period last year. The total income rose to Rs 992.49 crore in the latest quarter, from Rs 754.32 crore in the same period a year-ago.
