Coal India invites bids for coal mining in foreign countries

Navratna PSU Coal India today invited initial bids for selecting strategic partners for undertaking coal mining activities in foreign countries.

The Expression of Interest said it is looking for, "strategic partners in Australia, USA, South Africa and Indonesia for undertaking joint business initiatives in coal mining".

Coal India has a division called Coal Videsh to facilitate its foreign operations and enhance energy security of the country.

Coal Videsh would be dealing with potential strategic partners for coal mining in the four identified countries.

According to the company's website, Coal Videsh would look for acquisition of virgin coal blocks, opening of new mines and export the produce to India.
