Coal supply to NTPC owned Talcher Super Thermal Power plant at Kaniha (TSTPP) came to a halt today from its linked Lingaraj coal mine due to agitation by local villagers on demand of jobs.

As a result, the situation at the power plant, which is already in a super critical state having only 30000 tonne coal stake, has worsened.

This 3000 (6x500) Mw plant supplies power to 17 states.

The NTPC’s Kaniha plant gets about 30,000 to 35,000 tonne coal from the Lingaraj coal mine everyday as part of its total daily drawal of 55,000 from Mahanadi Coalfield.

If the strike continues for another day, sources said, the NTPC authorities would be forced to shut down a 500 Mw unit of the plant due to want of coal.
