Coats India, a division of Madura Coats Ltd, plans to tap 50 per cent of the state's thread business during Uttarayan celebrations, the annual kite-flying festival in Gujarat. |
"Of the Rs 100 crore kite industry, Rs 25 crore is contributed by the thread segment, and this year we are targeting a 50 per cent share in this segment," said Vineet Gehani, branch manager, Coats India. |
In the premium segment for kite flying threads, Coats India has 80 per cent of the market share. |
"Gujarat has witnessed a six per cent growth in the thread industry this year. Western and southern India, with Gujarat in particular, accounts for more than 60 per cent of the company's turnover," said S Satish, consumer product manager, Coats India. |
Apart from Coats India, Ludhiana-based Mahavir Spinning Mills and Malwa Cotton and Spinning Mills with their premium brands Vardhaman and Oswal, respectively, are the major competitors at the regional level. |
More than 10 per cent of the company's turnover comes from exports to various Middle East and European countries. Of the Rs 700 crore turnover of Madura Coats for the financial year 2002-2003, Coats India alone contributed Rs 500 crore. |
"With its rich experience, Coats strives to enrich its product range every year with a slew of new products, designed to satisfy the needs and requirements of each and every kite-flying enthusiast in Gujarat, and make the occasion more joyous than ever for every household across Gujarat," said Satish. |
Apart from leading in manufacturing and marketing of threads for sewing and non-sewing applications with a complete range of cotton, synthetic and core spun substrates, Coats India leads in manufacturing of zips, interlinings and needles as well. |
Coats has six manufacturing units, three in Tamil Nadu and one each in Gujarat, Chandigarh, and West Bengal. |
