Pune-based Codito Technologies has recently announced a strategic alliance with Texas Instruments (TI), to provide TI and its customers Software-on-Chip (SoC), an automated software programmability solution.

The tie-up is very significant in view of the recent trend of chip manufacturers moving towards multicore processors.

"In the last 12-18 months, chip manufacturers have been moving towards multiprocessor chips or multicore processors as it is commonly known," Patanjali Somayaji, chief executive officer, Codito Technologies said.

Codito Technologies has been working on the multiprocessor technology for the last five years and is now awaiting a patent on Cascade, its automated programming solution for multiprocessers.

Explaining the evolution of chips, Somayaji said, "Earlier single chips were made more powerful by programming it. Now, single chips will have multiple processors or cores on them, giving a single chip the power of two or more chips put together."

As Cadence is the first software in the world that allows for automated multiprocessor programming, Somayaji is hopeful of cashing in on its early market entry, "We are in talks with two other chip manufacturers for deployment of our technology," he said.

Quoting the market forecast from iSuppli Corp for multiprocessor chips, Somayaji said, "The multiprocessor chips market in 2005 was worth $2.6 billion and will increase fivefold in 2006 to $13.2 billion followed by $23.2 billion in 2007 and $32.5 billion in 2008."

As for the company, he said, "We are growing at 300 per cent and will maintain that over the next few years to become a $50 million company by 2008."

Speaking about its alliance with TI, Somayaji said, "Codito will license the technology to TI and will be conducting a two week training programme for TI's employees worldwide before the deployment of its technology in April 2006.

The revenue model will be variable for TI and its customers depending upon the use of the technology and will include the training costs."
