Coffee Day launches packaged coffee in TN

Coffee Day a division of Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading Co Ltd (ABCTCL) today launched its packaged coffee in the Tamil Nadu market. Coffee Day has tied-up with GlaxoSmithkline Consumer Healthcare Ltd for distribution of its packaged coffee called "Coffee Day Perfect" in Tamil Nadu.

Addressing reporters here today, Venu Madhav, business head of ABCTCL, said, "Tamil Nadu has been the major market among the four southern states for filter coffee consumption and that is the reason why we have launched Coffee Day Perfect first in Tamil Nadu."

"It is estimated that the entire coffee market in India is around 65,000 tonnes, of which 80 per cent is consumed in the four southern states. The filter coffee segment is between 18,000 tonnes and 20,000 tonnes of the total coffee market and is predominantly consumed in the southern states," he added.

Prem Kumar, general manager, new business development of GSKCH, said, "We are the distributors for Coffee Day Perfect in Tamil Nadu and expect to cover about 50,000 outlets in more than 120 locations covering the entire state."

Coffee Day Perfect is a different blend of filter coffee and has 43 per cent chicory in it apart from coffee beans. The packaged 500 gms coffee powder is priced at Rs 69, 200 gms at Rs 28 and 100gms at Rs 14.

ABCTCL is a Rs 250 crore company and Coffee Day is a brand name used as a mother brand in all of the group's coffee businesses like Cafe Coffee Day, Coffee Day Xpress, Coffee Day Take away and Coffee Day Fresh n Ground.

Cafe Coffee Day has been in the retail coffee cafe chain, Coffee Day Xpress has been in the retail fast food outlets, Coffee Day Take away sells coffee through coffee vending machines for consumers who are in a hurry and Coffee Day Fresh n Round deals with coffee powder stores.
