Cognizant to invest Rs 1,000 crore in Tamil Nadu over the next 5 years

To set up new develop centres in Chennai and Coimbatore

Global IT major Cognizant to invest Rs 1,000 crore in Tamil Nadu over the next five years.Lakshmi Narayanan, Vice Chairman, Cognizant said that in the next phase of company's growth in Tamil Nadu, the company plan to invest around Rs 1,000 crore over the next five years to expand its delivery infrastructure in Chennai and Coimbatore.

"As part of this, we intend to develop world-class global delivery centers in Chennai and Coimbatore. When complete, the centers will have a capacity to accommodate approximately 17,000 to 20,000 professionals," he said.

Cognizant entered a memorandum of understanding to this effect with the State Government today. It was signed on behalf of Cognizant by the company's Chief Operating Officer, T. Sridhar.

 

Cognizant, which was founded in Chennai in 1994, shares a special relationship with Tamil Nadu. In the past 20 years, Cognizant has seen growth in Tamil Nadu and globally. The company has grown its revenue from about $2 million in 1994 to over $10 billion in 2014, and its headcount from about 175 professionals in one delivery center in Chennai to over 218,000 in over 100 delivery centers worldwide in 2014.

Today, the company employ over 70,000 professionals in Tamil Nadu, across Chennai and Coimbatore.

The company invested over $1 billion in our operations-in real estate and IT-related infrastructure-in the State. Today, it operate from 16 delivery and operations centers in Chennai and Coimbatore, and continue to invest and expand our presence in the State.
