Coir Board chairman V S Vijayaraghavan said the Board was meticulously analyzing the trade enquiries from South American countries like Brazil in order to translate it into higher export targets in the coming years.
The Board’s participation in the recently concluded four-day House & Gift Fair in Sao Paulo, Brazil, strengthened the prospects of picking up momentum in coir product exports to the South American states. Brazil now stands 13th among the 100-plus coir products importing nations.
Coir product exports to Brazil include tufted mats, handloom mats, coir yarn, handloom and mattings, had touched 1551.06 tonnes, valued at Rs 10.43 crore during 2010-11 as against 1,332.44 tonnes worth Rs 6.95 crore in 2009-10.
