Coir products have found acceptance in Himachal Pradesh when the Coir Board participated in a special exhibition in connection with the Dussehra festival, at the Kullu valley.
Organised by the Coir Board with support from the Union ministry of MSME, the coir pavilion occupied 20 stalls at the exhibition with participants like Coirfed, Kerala State Coir Corporation, Primary Coir Co-operative Societies, coir pith product manufacturers and exporters from Tamil Nadu, Sfurti cluster from Karnataka displaying their products.
Jackets and umbrellas made of coir blended products attracted attention. Live demonstrations of mobile fibre extraction machine and pneumatic Anugraha looms were also organised at the Central Coir Research Institute’s pavilion.
Coir product sales at the Coir Board showroom clocked Rs 1.5 lakh during the exhibition. The participants got a large number of enquiries for their products, particularly the coir composite boards manufactured by the Sfurti clusters in Karnataka.
Virbhadra Singh, Union minister for MSME, also visited Coir Board stalls, a Coir Board press release said.
