Oral care major Colgate Palmolive (India) is the latest to join the bandwagon of FMCG firms setting up manufacturing facility in the northern region.

Colgate Palmolive will be setting up a toothpaste manufacturing unit at Himachal Pradesh.

This will be Colgate's second toothpaste manufacturing facility in the country, the other unit is located at Sewri, Mumbai.

According to the company, the unit will provide additional capacity to meet anticipated volume growth. FMCG companies have been setting up facility in the northern region because of the excise duty exemption.

The state government has allotted land to Colgate to establish this unit.

The Oral Care major had last year sold off its toothbrush manufacturing facility at Waluj, Aurangabad for an undisclosed sum. The facility was held through Camelot Investments, a wholly owned subsidiary of Colgate Palmolive India. The company is outsouring toothbrushes from third parties.

Godrej Consumer Products has also set up a facility for manufacturing toilet soaps in Himachal Pradesh.
