DCNS India, a subsidiary of French naval ship and submarine builder DCNS group, and Hyderabad-based SEC Industries Private Limited formally launched their joint workshop facilities here on Monday to undertake manufacturing of components for the P75 Scorpene submarines.
DCNS had awarded two contracts to SEC — the first in September 2011 and the second in May this year — reportedly valued at Euro 50 million to manufacture some of the components for the submarines with the transfer of technology from the French company. Union minister of state for defence MM Pallam Raju formally inaugurated the facility.
“We are happy to be a part o the ongoing indigenisation of the P75 programme. With the know-how, technical assistance and constant support provided by DCNS, we have developed these new facilities and delivered some major indigenous equipment for the Scorpene submarines,” D Vidyasagar, managing director of SEC Industries, said in a press release. “The contract with SEC is part of the indigenisation programme implemented by DCNS India under the P75 Mazagaon Purchased Materials (MPM) contracts. Through this commitment to manufacture in India, we are developing strong industrial partnerships and capabilities for P75 and future programmes,” said Bernard Planchais, chief operative officer of DCNS.
