Concor expects rise in traffic

The public-owned container mover Container Corporation of India Ltd (Concor) expects to double its traffic once the upcoming custom freight station (CFS) becomes operational from December.

The Concor depot at Vadodara handles about 1,000 to 1,200 containers of 20 feet a month. The new Concor site, developed with an investment of about Rs10 crore, is situated in Chhani in the outskirts of Vadodara.

"It was a long pending demand from exporters and importers from the region. The Concor team of Vadodara was also interested in starting a full fledged depot to offer custom clearance facility and up leading containers at one stop. We are confident that the traffic will be doubled at least once CFS becomes operational. At the same time, CFS will enable the exporters and importers to reduce the response time in their transactions," said S D Saxena, manager, Vadodara terminal.

Earlier, the custom clearance was possible only at Central Warehousing Corporation, Dashrath. The exporters had to move their cargo from Dashrath to Concor terminal at Vadodara at extra cost. Now onwards Concor will get control over entire movement of container once it appears for custom clearance.

The rail container terminal at Ankleshwar, set up by Concor, will become operational from first week of January. Concor has already received a green signal from the customs department.

The Ankleshwar facility has 1,500 sq m of warehouse, 21,000 sq metre of custom-bonded area and about 32,000 sq metre of area is covered for Concor operations, including for rail slides.
