The container freight station (CFS) of Container Corporation of India Limited (Concor), built at an investment of Rs 10 crore in Visakhapatnam, will start its operations by the end of this month. CFS is built in 14.22 acres of land and has 22,000 square metres of stocking space.

"Almost all the works have been completed. We are awaiting customs clearance to begin the operations," V Kalyana Rama, senior general manager, Concor, told Business Standard. With this, the number of container freight stations in Visakhapatnam has now become four.

The new facility of CFS will enable Concor to take up stuffing and de-stuffing of containers. In the current year, Concor is targeting a revenue Rs 5 -crore exclusively through CFS operations. It is also expecting more than Rs 50-crore earnings through CFS this year.

"Through this CFS, we are going to provide value-added services to our customers. So this year itself, Concor is expecting significant growth in business," he said. Concor earned about Rs 29 crore though its Vizag operations during last fiscal.

At present, Concor is mainly involved in handling and transportation of container boxes at Vizag port. It brings container trains to Vizag from different parts of the country.

During last fiscal, it handled and transported about 14,000 container boxes of both domestic and exim cargo though Vizag operations. This year, it is expecting to handle and transport about 20,000 container boxes.

During the last two years, the containers inflow and outflow have increased in Vizag mainly due to the modern container terminal operated by Visakha Container Terminal Limited at Visakhapatnam port. Owing to this, a lot of container freight stations have come up in Vizag.

The Central Warehousing Corporation has been operating a CFS from the last two years. A couple of private companies " Vizag-based Sravan Shipping Services and Mumbai-based Gateway East India Private Limited " has recently developed two container freight stations in 40 acres and 20 acres of land respectively at Visakhapatnam.
