The Nagpur inland container depot (ICD) of Container Corporation of India (Concor) on Monday evening became the first ICD in the country to offer a container service rake directly to Nepal. The service was flagged off with 780 tonne of polyester fibre of Indo Rama Synthetics (India) loaded in 70 standard size containers. All custom clearance formalities were completed at the ICD's yard here, and the containers despatched to be opened by the consignee in the neighbouring country. Indo Rama is exporting goods to three textile companies in Nepal - Reliance Spinning, Jyoti Spinning and Triveni Spinning. The train was flagged off by B S Ganu, Chief Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise and Sunil Agrawal, Divisional Railway Manager of Central Railways. With the clearances being done at Nagpur, the containers will now directly reach Birganj in Nepal. R Y Logistics, the forwarding agents for the Indo Rama shipment, was proud of their achievement of successfully despatching the rake. Rajesh Yadav of R Y Logistics was also present during the flagging-off ceremony. "The Nagpur ICD is the first to start such a service, and other ICDs can now take a cue from us," said Concor's Chief General Manager D K Tripathi. The train will reach Nepal in four days via Itarsi, Bina, Kanpur, and Gorakhpur. Concor has already started getting proposals from other companies for availing of the service. Paper-maker Ballarpur Industries (BILT), too, wants a slot in the train to Nepal, Tripathi said. Subodh Laroya, assistant vice-president (commercial) of Indo Rama, appreciated the service, and said it would save a lot of time for the consignors. He said with the company regularly exporting goods to Nepal, the new service would come in handy. The total value of the exports despatched on Monday was over Rs 4 crore, he added. |
