Coromandel Fertilisers, a Murugappa group company, is planning to set up a joint venture company in association with Japan-based Mitsui & Co for ammonia production.

"We are trying to set up a 0.5 million tonne capacity plant through a joint venture with Mitsui," A Vellayan, chairman of Coromandel Fertilisers, said.

He added that Mitsui and Coromandel Fertilisers would have equal stakes in the proposed JV.

"Talks are in the preliminary stages, and we are in the process of detailing requirements including the location of the proposed plant," Vellayan added.
