Internationally popular Indian handloom and handicrafts brand, Cottage, would be hitting the Chinese market soon.
Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India (CCIC), which showcases the best of hand-made products, is planning to open an outlet, possibly in the Chinese capital, Beijing.
"We are exploring the possibility of opening a franchise showroom in China," CCIC Managing Director M A Ibrahimi said. This would be state-owned CCIC's second overseas foray after it entered the European market this year, opening a showroom in the Danish capital Copenhagen.
Ibrahimi said Indian art objects, especially the Thangka paintings, and hand-made gift items are a big draw among the Chinese.
He hoped the outlet, which could be opened by the end of this fiscal, would garner enough business while promoting Indian arts and crafts in China.
Ibrahimi said CCIC is yet to finalise the franchise partner for the venture.
