Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting (WCCL), maker of Santoor soap brand, has obtained an injunction from a Hyderabad court recently against the advertisement released by fast moving consumer goods firm Godrej Consumer Products (GCPL) for its soap brand Godrej No 1. |
The advertisement which had blanket comparisons with "Santoor Soap" was challenged by Wipro on the grounds that the advertisement was unfair, unethical, incorrect and misleading. |
The court accepted Wipro's plea and has passed an ad interim injunction orders restraining GCPL from continuing with the controversial advertisement till further orders. |
Santoor has a market share of about 40 per cent in rural Andhra Pradesh and 25 per cent market share in the state. |
It is also ranked as the third largest toilet soap brand in the country in value terms. |
Anil Chugh, senior vice-president, WCCL, said, "The order protects our brand against disparaging advertisement." |
