Court restrains Godrej from using soap ad

Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting (WCCL), maker of Santoor soap brand, has obtained an injunction from a Hyderabad court recently against the advertisement released by fast moving consumer goods firm Godrej Consumer Products (GCPL) for its soap brand Godrej No 1.
 
The advertisement which had blanket comparisons with "Santoor Soap" was challenged by Wipro on the grounds that the advertisement was unfair, unethical, incorrect and misleading.
 
The court accepted Wipro's plea and has passed an ad interim injunction orders restraining GCPL from continuing with the controversial advertisement till further orders.
 
Santoor has a market share of about 40 per cent in rural Andhra Pradesh and 25 per cent market share in the state.
 
It is also ranked as the third largest toilet soap brand in the country in value terms.
 
Anil Chugh, senior vice-president, WCCL, said, "The order protects our brand against disparaging advertisement."
