Bangalore-based Brickwork Ratings India, a new credit rating agency that seeks to help investors make informed investment decisions that are appropriate for their risk profile, today commenced its operations.

It's the fifth credit rating agency licensed by Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) and the first one to be based in so, offering products such as rating of short and long-term paper, company fixed deposits, Tier I and Tier II capital instruments of banks, structured products, IPO grading etc", its Chairman Balasubramanian told a press conference.

Kulkarni, the company's Managing Director, said it has been traditionally observed that retail investors invariably lose out while sophisticated investment bankers, brokers and foreign institutional investors enter and exit the market at the right time.

"We have decided to extend knowledge-based services to the domestic market through a unique ratings methodology with a mission to help investors make informed investment decisions", Kulkarni said.

The agency, he said, is backed by proprietary models in credit risk for corporate, SMEs, retail as well as models for commercial banks. Brickwork has developed special models for company evaluation both for traditional as well as new economy companies that have substantial intangible assets.
