Heavy discounting and freebies are taking their toll on the value growth of the domestic colour television (CTV) industry.

In the April-August period, the industry registered a 4.8 per cent growth in value sales, even while volumes grew 11.5 per cent, year-on-year.

Data published by a leading market research firm shows that companies such as LG Electronics, Sansui (a product of Videocon), Mirc Electronics (makers of Onida), Samsung and Philips are adopting highly competitive pricing strategies, evident from their value and volume growth patterns, in their bid to wrest more marketshare.

In the process, the two domestic giants BPL and Videocon are losing marketshare.
