CV majors rule roads in May

Commercial vehicle (CV) companies had a good run in May this year with sales zooming ahead when compared with the same month of the previous fiscal.
 
Industry leaders Tata Motors reported a sales growth of 47.5 per cent in May 2004 to 14,391 units against 9,754 units in May 2003. Medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales grew 58.1 per cent to 10,051 units and light commercial vehicle sales grew 27.7 per cent to 4,340 units over the corresponding period last year.
 
Ashok Leyland sales in May 2004 grew 33 per cent to 3,905 vehicles compared with 2,946 vehicles in May 2003. Eicher Motors recorded a 17 per cent growth in sales during the month at 1216 units compared with 1038 units in May 2003.
 
Tata Motors reported an overall sales (commercial vehicle and passenger car, including exports) growth of 35.8 per cent at 29,774 vehicles.
 
The company's sales in the domestic market stood at 28,123 units against 20,670 units sold last year, an increase of 36.1 per cent.
