Due to increase in the purchase of branded products in Jalandhar and the greater market for new arrivals in the market, many international leather brands are eager to set up shop and expand in Punjab.

Da Milano, an Italian brand with a base in New Delhi, with a turnover of Rs 60 crore, is planning to expand in Punjab.

Apart from bags and accessories, it is going to add home furnishings to the existing products range.

"We are present in Delhi, Mumbai, and Ludhiana as of now and have about six retail outlets in Delhi, one in Mumbai and one in Ludhiana. And now we are planning to expand our base in Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad," Sahil Malik, chief executive officer of Da Milano, said adding, at present, manufacturing was taking place at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh.

"We are exploring Chandigarh as another prime market area, apart from exclusive retail outlets. We are looking at franchisee outlets in the near future," he said.

"For the season, we have added reptile print collections in yellow, blue, purple, white, pink and orange as these bags can be dressed up for various occasions. They have been highlighted with contrasting coin pouches and tassels and with an extended feature of mobile phone holder and emphasis has been given to Totes, short bags, office bags and party bags," Sahil added.

"We are also looking at men for our corporate products. Basically, the upper-middle class is our target. We have designers from Italy who will shape products especially for the Indian market," he added.
