Personal care boom buoys Dabur net 32%

Home-grown fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) company Dabur India has announced a rise of 32.2 per cent in its net profit to Rs 68.8 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2006, up from Rs 52.05 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. The increase comes on the back of double-digit growth in its core product categories of haircare, oral care and health supplements. Net sales stood at Rs 436.9 crore, up 31.3 per cent from Rs 332.85 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. These results are on a standalone basis for Dabur India.

Dabur's results are in line with those of other FMCG companies, which are also on recovery track, such as Nestle (which saddled with a steep rise in prices of commodities, fuels and higher operating costs, reporting a 11.2 per cent rise in its net profit) and Hindustan Lever (with an over 34 per cent rise in net profit).

Gateway Distriparks net up 6%

Port-based logistics company Gateway Distriparks (GDL) announced 6.22 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 20.83 crore for the quarter ended September 2006 against Rs 19.61 crore for the quarter ended September 2005. Total income from the company's operations grew 10.30 per cent to Rs 40.46 crore for the quarter under review versus Rs 36.65 crore for the same quarter last year.

HZL profit surges on higher prices, volumes

Hindustan Zinc's net profit surged a phenomenal 562 per cent to Rs 1,298 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2006 over the previous corresponding quarter figure, primarily owing to higher prices and volumes. The company's sales during the quarter grew on the back of sale of 89,501 dry tonne of surplus zinc concentrate.

Unitech net surges on big expansion drive

Real estate company Unitech reported a phenomenal 820 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 100.09 crore for the second quarter (ended September 30, 2006) of the current financial year against Rs 12.2 crore for the corresponding quarter in the previous financial year. The robust growth came on the back of an aggressive expansion drive around the national capital region riding the current boom in the sector. The company's net sales more than doubled to Rs 384.76 crore for the quarter under review.
