DataWind claims leadership position in Indian tablet market

DataWind, the manufacturer of tablets under the Akash brand, has claimed market leadership with 34.2% of all tablets sold in India during the first quarter of 2016.

Citing CMR's recent report, the Canada-based technology company, also claimed it was well ahead of Samsung (second place), which sold 20.9% of all tablets in India.

According to the CMR study, DataWind holds 74.4% market share in the sub-Rs 5,000 tablet segment, which is the largest and fastest-growing segment of the market, having increased to 46% of the overall tablet market in India.

IDC's recent study of the Indian tablet market also confirmed DataWind's leadership position. Samsung is followed by Lenovo in third place, the company stated.

 

Suneet Singh Tuli, president and CEO of DataWind said: "We delivered a record quantity of tablets in the quarter due to the continued overwhelming demand from our customers.
