Cab drivers, dhabawalas, immigration officials, security personnel as well as travel agents are getting a makeover, thanks to the plans of the Department of Tourism to make them more tourist friendly.

If the plans of the department of tourism bear fruit, soon a tourist is likely to come across a well-mannered cab driver who is fluent in English.

To make the Indian tourism industry more tourists friendly, the Department of Tourism and India Tourism Development Corporation(ITDC) are conducting special training programmes to people employed in the travel trade. Thus, the training is not going to be limited to the cab drivers.

On key tourist circuits, dhabawalas will be helped to prepare menu as well as create an ambiance that would attract tourists.

"The roadside joints would be helped prepare menu, presentation of food as well as personal hygiene," said Kuldip Verma, general manager, ITDC.

"Besides, they would also be helped create a cleaner cooking area," he added.
