At a time when auto component makers are finding it difficult to sustain growth following cost pressures, country's first Autocluster Development and Research Institute along with product lifecycle management solutions firm DesignTech Systems Ltd has brought a major sigh of relief for these smaller industry players.

The two leading establishments will provide cost effective simulation softwares to auto component makers so as to reduce operational costs along with development duration up to 50 per cent.

Autocluster Development and Research Institute, set up by the Government of India in Pune, with this tie-up, has taken a crucial step in the small and medium enterprise segment.

"With the latest development in manufacturing simulation technology, our vendors will be able to function in single or two stages instead of a longer trial and error method before finalising any design. Cost effectiveness and reduced cycle time have become important factors for the manufactures. Our solutions can bring down cost and time savings up to 50 per cent and enable single stage design," said Vikas Khanvelkar, managing director, DesignTech Systems.

At a time when the economy is going through a lull, SMEs are looking at are solutions that enable cost cutting, but at the same time, help attaining optimisation.

"SMEs will die a natural death if they don't come up to the global standards. With the support of the government, this initiative will make available the softwares that DesignTech has and we will leverage this technology to the end users," said VM Rao, managing director, Autocluster Development and Research Institute.

With emerging technologies like rapid prototyping and 3-dimention live experience, product designs can be conceptualised digitally and their life cycle can be simulated with the help of the softwares.

"This helps our vendors or manufacturing units improve on quality while they save on production cost. Also, it ensures that quality components are taken care of right at the beginning," added Sanjay Daga, vice-repsident, (operations), DesignTech Systems.
Established under Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation Scheme (IIUS) of the Government of India, Autocluster is the first of its kind set-up.

It targets services and transfer of technology to manufacturing industries in the region and also sets standard benchmarks with regards to new products, quality and component testing.
