The shoe barn Dey was gunned down by motorcycle borne assailants in broad daylight at Sakchi area in the steel city on November 2 last year.

According to police at around 6am of May 16, four men came on two motorcycles and started firing indiscriminately at the front entrance of the Dey's residence.

The assailants fired several rounds and left the place without any resistance from the carbine-armed guards and policemen posted at the Dey's residence.

The were later placed under suspension by the authorities. The superintendent of police, Jamshedpur, Naveen Kumar Singh, told the media that there were no casualties in the shootout, but a few bullets hit the windows and a shutter within the house.

He said it seemed to be planned attack.

Shekhar Dey, the elder brother of late Ashish Dey, has asked more police protection for his family members.

The SP said the attack on Dey's house was not a coincidence and it made clear that the culprits were trying to weak the case by frightening the victim's family.

The Jamshedpur police filed the chargesheet against Jamshdpur hotelier and transporter, Vinod Singh in the court of the judicial magistrate on May 13.

In the chargesheet, investigators accused Vinod Singh of conspiracy stemming from business rivalry.

Gangster Akhilesh Singh and his brother Amlesh Singh were named as co-conspirators in the murder.

The residence now housed shoe baron Shekhar Dey, whose elder brother Ashis was shot dead a few months ago, in Sakchi area.

The police charge-sheet named hotelier Vinod Singh as one of the accused in the Ashis Dey murder.

Four police guards failed to retaliate and the gang escaped.

Police sources said the incident was apparently aimed at terrorising the family ahead of the trial in the Ashis murder case.

Ashish Dey was shot dead at Sakchi on November 2 triggering widespread protests by businessmen and local people prompting police to go on an overdrive to apprehend the killers.

Police conducted narco test and brain mapping on Vinod Singh as well as another accused Amlesh Singh at Bangalore recently.

Besides Amlesh and Vinod, Jitendra Singh alias Pappu Don, was the third accused already in the net.

Vinod and Amlesh had been arrested on the information by Pappu Don during a narco test in Bangalore about three months back.
