In a move to expand its infrastructure in India, DHL, the express and logistics company, inaugurated its new service centre in Chennai.

This facility will serve both as a combined gateway and service centre until an on-airport gateway (a facility near airport to accept parcel delivery) is built here.

The new centre will serve 43 courier routes operating out of it in two cycles, which will almost double the present shipment handling capacity to 3,000.

During the launch press conference, Chris Callen, country manager, DHL Express India, said, "DHL India is growing at a rate of 20-25 per cent per year. This facility will enhance our network operation."

The company which has a 60 per cent market share in India, has 20 service centres in India and plans to set up their gateway and service centres in cities like Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Kolkata and Hyderabad by the end of 2005.
