It has been difficult for the DTH companies to convince the cable TV homes to opt for DTH. The reasons are not far to seek. The cost of entry seems to be the biggest hurdle. Now, Dish TV has launched special packages to entice the people of the four south Indian states.

Dish TV, which is part of the Zee Group, is attempting to make a deeper foray into the southern markets. The company has reduced the entry cost by over 40 per cent to Rs 1,990 (plus Rs 200 as installation charges) from the earlier Rs 2,950 (plus Rs 200). In addition to this, there is monthly recurring cost starting at Rs 60 per month going up to Rs 300 per month.

Dish TV aims to gradually increase the proportion of its revenues from its value-added services, said Vinay Agarwal, CEO, Dish TV. With offerings like movie-on-demand, gaming, active sports, active news and multi-studio feed, Dish TV hopes that as DTH television industry evolves, a higher proportion of people will opt for such value-added services.

In addition to that, Dish TV also charges carriage fees to many of the television channels which again seems to be a good revenue stream for the firm.
