Domestic car sales dip 24% in Oct

Domestic passenger car sales declined by 23.77% to 138,521 units in October, 2011, from 181,704 units in the same month last year.

According to figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) today, motorcycle sales in the country grew marginally to 879,883 units during the month from 874,146 units in the corresponding month last year.

Total two-wheeler sales grew by 2.01% to 1,147,621 units last month from 1,125,052 units in October, 2010, as per the data.

Sales of commercial vehicles grew by 18.53% to 61,800 units in the month under review from 52,138 units in the year-ago period, SIAM said.

Total sales of vehicles across categories registered a decline of 1.05% to 1,441,594 units in October from 1,456,901 units in the same month last year, it added.
