The Department of Telecom (DoT) has sought more details from Reliance Communication on GSM cellular roll-out plans for which the Anil Ambani company has sought spectrum from the government.

"We have sought more details from Reliance on their roll-out plans on GSM. The company might have to vacate its current CDMA spectrum to get GSM spectrum for its roll-out. Our understanding is that they might completely switch over to GSM- based mobile services and exit CDMA as they have sought spectrum for GSM wherever it is available," highly placed sources said.

Reliance Communication with nearly 2 crore CDMA-based mobile subscribers is currently one of only two major CDMA players in the country.
