DS eyeing Rs 2,000-cr business in confectionary sector

The group has introduced new products in the confectionery and powdered beverages: Atanu Gangoly

The diversified Rs 2,200-crore Dharampal Satyapal (DS) group, which recently ventured into the confectionery and powdered drink is aiming for revenues in the range Rs 180-200 crore in the first year of its operations in this segment.

Atanu Gangoly, a company official, said the group has introduced new products in the confectionery and powdered beverages. While Chingles mark the group’s entry into the Rs 1,600-cr chewing gum industry, Piyoz and Yomil marks its entry into the powdered-drink category. The company has made a comined investment of over Rs 200 crore in the three new products.

Sharing the experience of Chingles, a chewing gum product, introduced in the market earlier this year, Gangoly said the response for the product has been encouraging as the company had sales realisation of Rs 9 cr in from April till July of the current year.

 

It has been launched in three innovative flavors. The Rs 1,600-crore chewing gum industry is growing at 25 per cent compound annual growth rate (CAGR).

The DS group has its entry marked in the powdered drink segment through Piyoz and Yomil. While Piyoz was launched in March this year, Yomil is being launched across different markets in the country. Piyoz is summer cooler while Yomil is a flavoured one-minute shake.

The powdered segment is estimated to be a Rs 500 cr industry that is growing at a robust pace of 15 per cent annually.
