Fast-food chain Dunkin’ Donuts announced last week that it was dropping Donuts from its name in a bid to transition globally into a cafe. The move has far-reaching implications for India, where donuts as a concept has not clicked. In the past two years, Jubilant FoodWorks, the master franchisee of Dunkin's and Domino’s Pizza in India, has cut losses and reduced the Dunkin' footprint by 52 per cent (to 37 stores) as it eyes a turnaround for the brand in the country.
