Imported liquor has became cheaper by 10-22 per cent, thanks to the duty cut announced in the Union budget.
Effectively, the price of Johnnie Walker Black Label has fallen 21.95 per cent from Rs 4,100 to Rs 3,200 in Mumbai. Johnnie Walker Red Label is down 19.45 per cent from Rs 1,800 to Rs 1,450. The prices of these two brands are a benchmark for the price of imported liquor in any country.
Apart from these two, UDV India Ltd has also brought down the price of its another famous Scotch whiskey brand, J&B, by a similar extent.

Highland Distillers has reduced the price of its flagship, Famous Grouse, by 18.25 per cent in Mumbai and by 25 per cent in Chandigarh.
Apart from whisky, imported cognac too is set to become cheaper. Moet Hennessy India Pvt Ltd is planning to cut the prices of its famous cognacs, Hennessy XO and Hennessy VS, by 17-18 per cent. The company is also going to reduce the prices of its bestselling champagnes, Dome Perignon and Moet Chandon, by 12-13 per cent.
The sobering effect on prices has resulted with Sinha reducing the duty on liquor from 465 per cent to 340 per cent.
