ECIL, OU in pact to offer MS by Research

Electronic Corporation of India Limited (ECIL), the pioneer of indigenous electronic revolution in the country, announced that it would work closely with Osmania University here to offer BE/B Tech graduates 'MS by Research.'
The objective of this tie-up is to make the academic staff of Osmania University and the MS students actively participate in the live R&D projects at ECIL.
Graduates enrolling for MS by Research will undergo a 24-month programme in electronics, communications and computer sciences of which six months will be classroom lectures at OU and during the remaining 18 months, the students will work on the live R&D projects at ECIL.
The topics for the programme will be mutually decided by experts from ECIL and Osmania University and during the 24-month period, the students will be assisted by guides from ECIL and OU. At the end of the period, OU will award the degree.
C D Murthy , the executive director (R&D) of ECIL, said: "In most of the developed countries, the industry and the universities are networked to work on R&D - using each others competencies, resulting in a unique synergy and effective use of resources to produce high end technology. This synergy allows for a proper atmosphere that promotes working on technology. However, lack of this atmosphere in developing countries like ours, makes our students as well as the industry to look outside the country. The MS by Research initiative is an effort to network the industry and the University to create that atmosphere."
The programme has several benefits. While ECIL will benefit due to improved R&D, it will add valuable experience and value addition to the academic community of OU, a press release said.
