EIH Limited has stopped work in its Flight Kitchen project in Kolkata for the time being.
“The flight kitchen business has been doing very good, but we decided to stop the Kolkata flight kitchen project on account of recession.We had got the land, done the foundation, but since the time we started work a lot of foreign airlines have pulled out service from Kolkata, so we had to stall the project,” said P R S Oberoi, chairman and chief executive, EIH Limited on the sidelines of the 59th annual general meeting.
The investment in the first phase for the project was pegged at Rs 40 crore.Bulk of the investment was in the equipments, explained S S Mukherji, vice chairman, EIH.
Mukherji also informed that the Cochin and Calicut Flight Kitchen project was very much on. The company would invest in flight kitchens in future.The next Flight Kitchen investment will happen in Delhi near Delhi airport but that would not be anytime soon, he said.
The proposed flight kitchen in Kolkata was expected to come up on five acres on Jessore Road, close to the airport. The company was also looking at setting up another hotel in Kolkata. “We have been investigating for a site in Kolkata, but have unfortunately not made much progress,” said Oberoi. The location and market would determine whether it would be under the Trident or Oberoi brand, said Oberoi.
