Expanding its gear box manufacturing capacity, Vallabh Vidyanagar-based Elecon Engineering Company Limited has set up a new plant for its Elecon Gear Division. Located near Prayas Engineering (Anand), the new plant has been built to double the gear box manufacturing capacity from 500 gear boxes per month to 1,000 gear boxes per month.
One of the largest material handling equipment and transmission products manufacturer, Elecon Engineering will produce internal components of the helical gear box at its new plant. Post its inception in 1951, the Elecon Gear Division introduced modular design concept, case hardened and ground gear technology.
Moreover, according to Prayasvin Patel, chairman and managing director of Elecon Engineering, the 'Lean Manufacturing' system with different types of lean tools including TPM, Kanban, and Kaizen will be implemented at the plant. "Construction of this modern facility is another step towards our motto 'always a step ahead in technology'. With this enhanced facility we aim to increase our turnover by 33 per cent within the period of one year," said Patel.
In order to ensure minimum labour fatigue, the new plant will focus on overall efficiency and condition of the equipment as well as work holding devices, tool management, coolant management and work handling systems.
