Empee in strategic pact with USL

The pact with USL will initially be for a period of three years

United Spirits, India’s largest spirits manufacturer controlled by UK-based Diageo, has entered into an agreement with Chennai-based Empee Distilleries for the manufacture of its IMFL for distribution in Karnataka.

The manufacturing will be undertaken at Empee’s unit in Arabhikothanur village, Kolar district, Karnataka, and will improve the topline and bottomline growth of the company.

The agreement entered into with United Spirits Ltd will initially be for a period of three years. Empee has a capacity of 150,000 9-litre cases per month at this plant and USL has contracted upto 80,000 cases to start with.

Nisha Purushothaman, Jt Managing Director, Empee Distilleries, said: “This is an important development in execution of the future growth plans of the company. We view this as a strategic alliance which will enable us to grow our liquor business further in Karnataka.”

“We have over three decades of experience in this industry and this should augur well for the alliance. The company is also working out a detailed plan for the export of IMFL to East Asian countries from this plant,” he added

Empee Distilleries has a presence in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka, and has a distilling capacity of 1 million cases per month and is looking at premiumising their offerings going forward.
