Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has earmarked Rs 1,000 crore towards energy conservation and efficiency measures in Andhra Pradesh.
“A three-member team from EESL has assured an investment of around Rs 1,000-crore over a period of 2-3 years as part of the energy conservation activities initiated by the government of Andhra Pradesh,” a state government release stated.
EESL is jointly promoted by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, NTPC, REC and PFC with equal equity participation for implementation of energy efficiency projects in India and abroad.

In Phase-I, it would take up the programme in 24 municipalities including Guntur, Kakinada, Nellore, Anantapur, Tirupati and Kurnool. This would lead to energy cost savings of Rs 28.56-crore annually.
Towards promoting efficient lighting in homes, EESL is keen on supplying high-quality LED lights at a subsidised Rs 10, as against a market price of Rs 400. The modalities for the implementation of this project are currently being worked out.
This apart, the press release stated, EESL has apprised the chief minister of retrofitting the agricultural pumpsets with energy efficient units in a phased manner to ensure a minimum of 30 per cent energy saving in the farm sector.
It has agreed in principle to a pilot project for retrofitting 25,000 agricultural pumpsets in 13 mandals where the segregation of agri feeders has been completed.
