Police said that Escorts India Ltd, which owns the helicopter, did not seek permission to use its ground for landing and take off.

According to a complaint filed by the DAR authorities, neither the firm nor Kharge had secured permission from the Election Commission, police said.

The matter has also been brought to the notice of the Election Commission, police said.

The police have already submitted a chargesheet in a local court in this connection and the case is expected to come up for hearing on April 28.

Following the controversy, Kharge, who was to fly back to Bangalore, could not use the helicopter and travelled to Hyderabad by road to take a flight.

The helicopter is still on the DAR grounds, police said, but refused to confirm whether they have seized it.

Kharge had hired the helicopter to visit his former assembly constituency Gurumitkal to thank the electorate for electing him for eight successive terms. Gurumitkal has become a General seat under the delimitation process.

Kharge is now contesting from Chitapur reserved constituency.
