Escorts, one of India’s leading tractor manufacturers, is aiming to improve its share in the Uttar Pradesh market, where farm mechanisation is gradually gaining pace.
The UP tractor market is pegged at around 50,000 units per annum and Escorts, which at present has 22 per cent share, aims to capture 25 per cent of the pie in the state.
“We are targeting to close the 2008-09 fiscal with a sales figure of 12,000 from UP, up from 11,000 last year, even in current economic slowdown,” Rohtash Mal, executive director and CEO, Escorts Agri Machinery Group, told Business Standard.
The company has a network of 221 dealers in UP, besides 648 sales and service outlets.
“UP is fast evolving as a tractor and farm equipment market. Since the land here is already fertile, further farm mechanisation will improve agricultural yield substantially,” he said.
The company has recently launched two tractors in UP — Powertrac 4455 (PT 4455) and PT 439 Deluxe.
