Subhash Chandra-led Essel Group's education arm, Zee Learn, has earmarked an over Rs 70 crore investment this calender year to scale-up its chain of schools under Kidzee brand, a top company official said.

"Based on the fundamental demand in the country, we are very optimistic on the growth of the education sector and plan to open more schools. We also encourage more public-private partnerships in this regard," its CEO Sumeet Mehta told PTI here.

Zee Learn is planning to open 200 Kidzee schools for toddlers and about 40 Zee Schools, he said.

"Every year, we open 100-200 Kidzees and 30-40 Zee schools in the country. This year we plan to open a similar number of schools," Mehta said.

At Present, it has about 700 Kidzees and 55 Zee Schools in Tier I, II and III cities across the country.

Kidzee, which has a student-teacher ratio of 8:1, also plans to have day-care facilities in its schools in view of increasing demand from working couples.

"We will soon have day-care facilities as there is a lot of demand for this from working couples. We plan to introduce this in the coming academic year," Mehta added.
