To cater to the evolving needs of both urban and rural consumers, Eveready Industries has launched new categories in the ‘Power Sources and Lighting’ space.

Aimed at urban India, the company has launched new batteries, Eveready Ultima batteries in AA, AAA and 9-volt sizes priced at Rs 30 for a set of two and Eveready Recharge in a range of 2500 & 2700 series rechargeable batteries based on Nickel Metal Hydride technology.

For rural households, which don’t have access to electricity, the company has launched Homelite, an alternate lighting product solution based on Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology. Priced at Rs 350, Homelite runs on 3 D-sized batteries.

On one set of D-size batteries, Homelite can provide light for 80 hours. At 2.5 hours of use per day, this translates to light for a month on one set of 3 batteries, which costs Rs 45.

Only 44 per cent of rural households have electricity.
