Diversified EPC conglomerate Punj Lloyd has appointed J P Chalasani as Director and Group Chief Executive Officer.

Joining Punj Lloyd from Reliance Power, Chalasani would work closely with Atul Punj, the group chairman, and lead the entire management team from the company’s corporate headquarters in Gurgaon. “This is a significant development for Punj Lloyd. J P Chalasani’s proficiency in handling challenging assignments is well established and I am confident that his experience and expertise will augment the company's global operations and increase shareholder value,” Atul Punj said.

A mechanical engineer, Chalasani has 30 years of experience in the Indian infrastructure industry, in both, public and private sectors. He started his career as a trainee engineer with NTPC where he worked for 16 years.

At Reliance Power, Chalasani was instrumental in the company becoming the largest market cap company in the private sector in power and in starting India’s largest coal mine operations in the shortest possible time. He also led the transition of BSES from a power distribution company to an infrastructure company, creating new business areas.

For a group that has extensive operations across West Asia & Africa, Asia Pacific, South Asia and Europe, this is a significant step on its roadmap towards becoming a preferred EPC contractor globally. “Chalasani will be spearheading the group’s global, diversified businesses, focusing on improved operations, augmented processes and strengthening various business entities. Apart from the core business, he will leverage human resources and finance to play a pivotal role in the group’s performance,” said a company statement.
