However, the sugarcane growers have decided to continue agitation at the Kinauni mill on differences in 2006-07 payments.

"The company management issues cheques for an amount of Rs 10.35 crore for farmers of Kinauni mill (Meerut) and Rs 9.01 crore for Bhaisana mill (Muzzafarnagar). With this, there are no dues for the 2007-08 season on these two mills", said Nitin Tyagi, chairman of the local Maliyana Cane Union, a union with members who supply sugarcane to the mill.

He, however, added that the dispute over 2006-07 payments continues and therefore farmers would maintain status quo at the Kinauni mill.

Farmers claim that while the Supreme Court had directed the mills to pay Rs 118 a quintal (100 kg), only for those quantities for which payments had not been made till then, Kinauni re-adjusted all prices to Rs 118.

The company, however, maintains that it has complied with orders of the Supreme Court and High Court in making the payments.
