FCI's kharif paddy procurement down by 3.7%

The food corporation of India (FCI), the central government's foodgrain procurement agency, has procured 10 million tonne of paddy so far in the current kharif procurement season, down 3.7% from last year's correpsonding figure of 10.38 million tonne.

The minimum support price operations in the paddy producing states is in full swing and the corporation and other agencies are hopeful of procuring 27.6 million tonnes of rice this year, said an FCI release. In the last kharif season, 25.1 million tonne of rice was procured.
