Fedex has expanded its reach in India and has unveiled new customised products for shippers. Fedex which runs cargo and courier services around the world announced the completion of integration of AFL and Unifreight India into its fold on Wednesday. Fedex had acquired the two Indian companies involved in logistics and express mail in 2011.
The company announced that it has spread its service coverage from 4,000 postal codes to over 19,000 postal codes following the integration, launched new fixed price packages for small and medium industries and e-commerce companies and automated solutions for improved efficiencies. It has also hired and trained 1,300 drivers and courier staff to improve service delivery.
"In little over a decade India is expected to have as many as 18 mega demand cities with a GDP surpassing $ 20 billion. The internet is also propelling small towns into the league of top rural hubs for e-commerce in India. That is why we have expanded our network in India,'' said David Canvan, vice president (operations), Fedex India.
