Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), the world's leading express delivery company, has said it is evaluating to scale up its Indian network. |
FedEx operates an A310 daily flight from Mumbai to Europe and US. The cargo flight operates with a capacity of 75,000 pounds a day. |
Without revealing further details, Jacques Creeten, managing director, Indian Subcontinent, FedEx, said, "We are now evaluating our network as we are reaching capacity." |
Though it seems that FedEx is evaluating the possibilities of expanding its Indian fleet or perhaps make it a transit point for Asia Pacific to be able to get more flights, Creeten declined to comment further on the nature of expansion. |
However, the fact that FedEx is already evaluating its network clearly indicates the volume of business that it is generating out of India. |
While one flight operates out of Mumbai every day, carrying shipments to Europe and the US, FedEx also delivers shipments to India in another inbound flight which operates on a daily basis. |
The flight leaving Mumbai connects to FedEx's Europe, Middle East and Africa network, which is clearly one of the biggest regional network. |
EMEA is one of the largest global regions for FedEx. In this region alone, the company operates 36 aircraft, covering 43 airports directly and employs 8,200 people. |
Buoyed by the huge response in India, this $16.4 billion company has announced the launch of three technology initiatives in India, namely, FedEx Global Trade Manager, FedEx Insight and G-Tracker. |
These technology initiatives are web-enabled and help customers to get a detailed communication on shipments. |
The global trade manager has been launched to enlighten customers on over 1,000 export / import forms covering 40 countries and over 9,500 commodity descriptions to help customers identify which documents should accompany their shipment. |
