Buoyed by festive offers, net additions in telecom subscriptions in Gujarat circle for the month of September saw an increase of 50,000 as against a decline of 370,000 in August.
As against a decline of 370,000 net additions in telecom subscriptions in Gujarat in August, the state has seen a rise of 50,000 in September. Among industry players, while some attribute it to better offers and tariff consistency, others believe the festive season could have had its positive impact.
In September, the total wireless subscriber base in Gujarat stood at 52.94 million as against 52.89 in August.
"While we take revenue additions into consideration instead of net additions in subscribers, the latter could have grown due to festive season kicking in since September till November," said Arul Bright, chief operating officer, Idea Cellular Ltd. - Gujarat.
As per the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) figures, of the top three telecom operators in Gujarat, namely Vodafone, Idea Cellular and Bharti Airtel, both the former two saw their wireless subscriber base rise in September to 16.24 million and 8.21 million. As against this, the month of August saw their subscriber base at 16 million and 8.20 million, respectively.
Meanwhile, according to Brajesh Bajpai, Business Head - Gujarat, Vodafone India Ltd., "This is as a result of new subscribers going for value based offerings from operators on a long-term basis. Also, we are witnessing that the phenomenon of rotational churn is on the decline. Additionally, the existing subscribers are preferring to stay with current operator rather than changing numbers owing to exciting and effective base offers."
