The one tonner vehicle will cost less than Rs 2 lakh.
With an aim of tapping the growing rural market, Rajkot based Fieldmarshal Group is set to launch a rural transport vehicle in Gujarat. The group, known for its flagship company PM Diesels that manufactures diesel engines, is currently conducting endurance test of the commercial-cum-passenger transport vehicle for the rural market.
To be launched in a few months time, the 16.5 gas-operated one tonner vehicle will cost less than Rs 2 lakh, said a source close to the development.
While initially the vehicle will be launched in the diesel versions, the group is also planning to introduce CNG and LPG versions later on. The group will be rolling out the vehicle in Gujarat and later expand its presence in rural areas of other states.
"Currently, there is a need for a durable and efficient transport vehicle in the rural markets. Since we are based out of Gujarat, we will launch the vehicle in the state first and later roll it out in other states," the source said.

Fieldmarshal Group has also planned to manufacture 16-18 hp gas-operated engines which will be later used for other vehicles.
Some time back, the group acquired Panchnath Auto Pvt. Ltd. for manufacturing petrol and gas operated engines as well as vehicles.
Having diversified from being a core engine manufacturing group to vehicles as well, Fieldmarshal has re-oriented its capacity of 160,000 engines to 100,000 engines, 250 tractors per month and 500 three wheelers per month.
